Firstly a huge thank you to our representative from the Sporting Shooter's Association of Australia's Farm Assist Program, who visits regularly to assist with our fox and rabbit problem. He uses a camouflaged digital motion activated camera mounted to a tree, to take photos and video of passing animals.
The SSAA Farmer Assist program has been developed to provide farmers and landholders with a simple way of sending qualified SSAA members to undertake shooting as part of pest control activities. Volunteers undertake an assessment to display a professional-like shooting standard. The service is a win-win for SSAA members and for the rural landowner, saving them both money and time. Shooters visiting our property are covered by the SSAA's $20 million public liability insurance.
Much of the footage obtained is of our pest species - foxes and rabbits. But check out this incredible video of a female wedgetail and her cheeky youngster.
We do occasionally lose poultry to Wedge Tailed eagles. But it's a small price to pay to have such a magnificent bird right in our backyard.
