Can I let my baby ducklings swim?
Adult ducks have oil glands, which help to coat their feathers and hence keep them afloat. Ducklings to not have adequate oil in their feathers until 5-6 weeks of age. In the wild, they obtain some oil from their mother duck. In captivity, they risk drowning if left in the water too long without supervision. So by all means, let them have a swim (you'll find their antics hilarious) - but don't leave them unsupervised, and get them back under a heat lamp afterward.
